Fat Man Of Maldon, He wasn’t just Maldon’s fattest, but also reputedly the kingdom’s fattest. Dubbed ‘the fat man at Maldon’, his enormous size made him a local and national celebrity. When Edward Bright died in 1750 he was ‘supposed to be the biggest and weightiest Man in the World’. Why Bright was so big remains mysterious. When he died on 10th November 1750, at the age of just 29, Bright was thought to be the 'largest man that had ever lived in this Island'. [1] Bright weighed 47. He lived in a house on Maldon's High Street, and is buried in Maldon's Church of All Saints.
